Jim Staniforth has been flying gliders since 1976, with over 4000 hours in many different models. He currently holds commercial glider and private single-engine land ratings and is a former skydiver, hang glider, and paraglider pilot. Jim is a veteran of the WGC circuit having crewed and provided gliders for both the US and Australian teams. WWGC Garray will be his first time as US Team Captain. He enjoys cross-country coaching, tasking flights, and flying those tasks, mostly in the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin. In his professional life, he is a sound engineer for concert performances in the genres of rock, pop, comedy, R+B, punk, jazz, country, etc. at venues equally varied and on most continents. He has an associate’s degree from a community college, master’s from the school of hard knocks.
