OSTIV has launched a crucial project aimed at improving glider safety by gathering detailed, real-world data on pilot injuries sustained in crashes—information that currently does not exist within manufacturer or regulatory records.
To fill this critical knowledge gap, the group is reaching out to the global soaring community with a request: pilots who have survived a glider accident and sustained injuries are invited to voluntarily and anonymously complete a confidential questionnaire.
This essential, non-blaming effort is focused solely on identifying injury patterns that can guide future design changes and significantly improve cockpit crashworthiness for all glider pilots.
The deadline for participation has been extended to June 30, 2026.

About OSTIV
The objectives of the OSTIV are to encourage and co-ordinate internationally the science and technology of soaring and the development and use of the sailplane in pure and applied research, the design, airworthiness and operation of gliders of all types, and the safety and training of pilots. The constitutional objectives of the OSTIV are achieved by seeking new knowledge, by encouraging dissemination through symposia and publications and by consultation with authorities.
