Merlin Soaring Association in Amelia, Virginia will be hosting a 3-day SSA Sponsored Cross-Country Development Camp for pilots that are looking to break the apron strings and broaden their soaring experience beyond the local airport. Merlin Soaring is located between Amelia Court House and Richmond in Virginia on our private gliderport with a 3200 x 100 foot turf runway and very good facilities. We have 2 tow planes. Bring your own glider or your clubs glider and join us for 3 days of informative morning presentations and mentored flights with experienced cross-country and contest pilots. Participants will need to be SSA members, have at least a FAA private glider rating and a Bronze badge and are encouraged have some short flights around their home field. Short tasks around the airport and/or longer flights (depending on weather and pilot experience) will be set for the participants to develop skills and confidence. We will use WeGlide to score / record your flights and See You for analysis during the evenings. So that every participant gets enough attention, we plan to limit attendance to 10-12 pilots. Register early to preserve your place in the camp. More details are available at the camps website. We plan on having meals at the glider port on Friday and Saturday nights for a small fee. Merlin can support camping and a limited number of RV hookups. Real bathrooms, showers and a washer and dryer are available. Multiple types of lodging are available within a 3-18 mile radius of the gliderport. Please see the Camp website for more lodging information. The registration fee is 100 dollars which covers a temporary club membership for insurance and other fixed costs. Meals and tows will be billed separately. Dinners will be about 20. Tows will be 50 to 2000 ft and 60 to 3000 ft AGL.
