2026 Glider Ground School
Philadelphia Glider Council
Convenient and Affordable
Flying gliders is a unique and wonderful experience, loved by type A+ personalities around the world! We all need Glider Ground School when training for our Private Pilot License. More importantly, as soaring professionals, we should refresh our knowledge of all things gliders at least once a year. You may be new to the sport and in training, or you could be a fifty-year veteran. Either way, you will benefit from Glider Ground School.
Here are the people who should attend this course:
- Anyone interested in learning about the sport of soaring.
- All Student pilots preparing for the FAA written knowledge test and the Oral Test for the Private Pilot’s certificate.
- Commercial and Flight Instructor candidates who want to converse like an expert during their FAA oral and check ride.
- Power pilots transitioning to gliders, or any licensed pilot who wants to enhance their soaring flight knowledge.
- Pilots who haven’t reviewed aeronautical knowledge material for a few years and want to feel sharper.
- Glider owners – To qualify for an insurance discount.
- Anyone who is suffering from winter induced aviation withdraw and wants to keep their head in the game.
The good news! You have a cost-effective, convenient, and professionally instructed opportunity to attend Glider Ground School this and every year through The Philadelphia Glider Council.
The Philadelphia Glider Council is a historic, 80-year-old glider club. We are in beautiful Hilltown, Pennsylvania, and with our fleet of gliders and tow planes, have 110 very active members. Importantly, 16 of those members are FAA Certified Flight Instructors, Glider (CFI-G) who bring Glider Ground School to soaring pilots every year in our classroom or via Zoom.
The course is given over five Saturdays in the winter off season, so your flying won’t be impacted (Glider flying pilots in year-round sunny climes can take a few hours for this valuable training before the ground heats up). Each of the five sessions is held on a Saturday morning in January and February and generally runs for 4 hours. If you miss a Saturday session, or the time is just not convenient, each session is recorded and made available to those enrolled in the course to watch and review at their leisure. At the completion of the 5 weeks, you receive:
- a logbook endorsement for the Private or Commercial or CFIG Knowledge test
- a log book endorsement for the Oral portion of your next BFR
- a log book endorsement for the knowledge training for Private or Commercial or CFIG Practical test
- Five FAA WINGS credits
Here’s the best part, the cost is only $40 for adult, or $25 for youth (under 21 years old). That cost is not per class; that’s for the entire 5 week course. Quite a bargain.
The 2026 Glider Ground School will be held on 5 consecutive Saturdays beginning with January 31, 2026. Information and sign up are at this link:
