2019 Uvalde Invitational - Report For August 3rd

The Uvalde Invitational spawned from discussion last year about alternatives to the way we have always run contests and what might be done to create more interest and participation. The comments centered around several topics including 1) scoring to FAI rules rather than SSA rules, 2) more flying in a shorter time frame for those who might not be able to commit to a 2 week National, 3) different types of tasks and even combinations of tasks in a given day, and 4) prize-giving. The intent therefore was to bring together a smaller group of pilots to test these theories and provide feedback to the greater soaring community.

We have 14 competition pilots here flying 11 aircraft which is a very manageable size for some of the concepts we plan to try. Everyone is open to experimentation and providing input to these concepts and it appears we are looking for a good week of weather and flying.

Last, the Uvalde Soaring Association has established a cash prize in the amount of $1,250 for the first pilot to fly a 1250 km flight from Uvalde and returning to Uvalde and validated by OLC.

Stay tuned as we have some exciting things planned.
