2018 Region 10 Championship - 6/21 Pre-Practice Morning Report

Well it’s the first day of Summer and after 4 days of un-flyable conditions the sun is out, birds are chirping, and the Soaring Club of Houston is gearing up for a great Region 10 contest.

Pilots started arriving yesterday with Sylvia and Hugh Grandstaff pulling in with a Discus 2a in tow. Sylvia will use this contest as prep for the Standard Class Nationals and based on her excellent showing at Cordele a few weeks ago she will be a contender to win the FAI Class.

Jim Frantz also pulled in with a new Ventus 3F in tow and he will be anxious to see how she goes in the first contest for the new ship.

Lou Chouinard arrived with his LAK-17A, having had a good contest just a week ago at Region 10N.

Weather for today is actually looking pretty good with Skysight showing 5K top of lift around 3pm. I’m sure our CD, Ken Sorenson will cook up another one of his excellent tasks to make for a fun afternoon XC.

While there were reports of flooding in Texas, a quick look at the precip map will show that most of the SCOH task area received less than 2 inches of rain. Coupled with abnormally dry conditions the ground is nearly dry and the field has absorbed the water with ease.

Stayed tuned for an end of day report…
