Standard Class Nationals - Evening report

Another challenging day at Chilhowee.  The forecast said "same airmass as yesterday, but less heating due to an influx of cirrus clouds."  This sounded grim, as yesterday needed all the sun it could get.  But the cirrus mercifully stayed away, yielding another weak and challenging - but certainly not hopeless - contest day.

There were several landouts, and things changed at the top of the scoresheet: Rich Owen, who has been leading this contest for several days, landed just short of home and thus gave up his lead to Bob Fletcher (second for the day, by a single point).

The Region 5 West Sport Class re-convened today, and also got in a task.  The winner was Frank Paynter (who somehow manages to fly in more contests each year than the next three contenders combined) won the day, but Fernando Silva holds on to the overall lead.
