Sports Class Nationals - Contest Day 6 Report

Contest Day 6 Report

Contest Day 6 began with another ten AM Pilots' Meeting:  Soaring Court was called to order, a prize was given to the winner of Day 5, prizes were given to Ground Launch Crew, Mr. Stringfellow gave his weather report, and Bob Faris gave the safety talk of the day.

Grid time was for Noon, and the sniffer was put up by 12:35 PM.  Then an elephant walk had to occur the grid on the other side of the runway.  The first launch was at 1:40 PM.  All gliders were up in the air within an hour and twelve minutes.  The task included going North to Sulfurdale, West Southwest to Lamardorf Peak, South Pine Valley Mountain, and Northeast to Parowan.  There were no relights, but there were five land-outs.  Several competitors did not complete the task.

The past six days have been blue skies with terrible wind, which have presented to competitors with challenging flying.
