US Soaring Team WGC Reports & Results

Yesterday was a non-flying day. The weather was stormy with periods of heavy rain and wind. Since it was cancelled early there was no team report as the only place where I have access to the web is at the glider port. The team decided to go to a laser tag facility to play war games, but that didn't work out so they ended up going bowling with the British Team. Evidently bowling in the UK is different that the US as they do not wax the lanes so there were lots of gutter balls at first. I took advantage of the free time to catch up on team administrative stuff and to just relax.

Today I realized that the last flying day is this coming Friday and the closing ceremonies are Saturday. I can't believe how quickly time has gone by. A Junior World Contest keeps everyone so busy that it is easy to lose track of time.

The weather today is problematic as so far the wind is strong, the clouds low, and the sky in general is looking spiteful. Everyone has gridded and the organizers are hoping for the weather to improve and perhaps they can get in a short task. Briefing has been delayed a half hour so we will get a better idea of the weather at that point. Hopefully, we will be able to get in a day of flying even if it is a short task.

Country and Contest Site

In 2005, The Soaring Centre, in association with the BGA, will be hosting the 5th Junior World Gliding Championships. This will be the first International gliding championships to be held in the UK in over a generation. The Soaring Centre, has with 400 members and a large fleet of modern glassfibre sailplanes.

Situated in the heart of the Midlands, the airfield is only 3 miles from the major motorway networks, and 1/2 mile from Husbands Bosworth village, making access easy from any part of the country.
