There is now a major void that cannot be filled

I have had the pleasure of knowing this man since 1978. This man would always have something uplifting to say to the long hair kid I was back then. He always made me feel like I was part of the group. I can remember being about 19 years old and looking down to see Dick entering the thermal with me. I was so worried about getting in his way. That makes me smile when I think about it.

I would go home to my wife on the very rare occasion and tell her that I had landed after JD. I did not say I had stayed up longer, just that I had landed after him. JD always like to be the last one to land. Sometimes I think he would announce he was coming in just to fool everybody else into landing. We all liked to beat JD on being the last one to land. He was the benchmark!!

Now that JD is gone and we lost Mary and AC a few years back, soaring will never be the same for me.

Folks he was such a fine gentleman, the likes of I had never known before.

Thanks for all you have given us Dick.
