SSA Members Urged to Check Heightened Security Restrictions

Flight in the vicinity of power plants and especially nuclear facilities is unwise. SSA is doing all it can to stay on top of issues that affect sailplane flying, and we hope for a return to normalcy as soon as possible. Nevertheless, extreme vigilance is called for on the part of all glider pilots until events stabilize. The most current list of Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR's) is available from FAA Flight Service Stations, and from other websites.

Members are asked to download the SSA's "Secure Our Aviation Resources" (SOAR) security program from this website and to adhere to the advice and programs set forth in that document. The FAA and TSA are aware that our clubs, schools and sites are using this program, and it is highly advisable that we do so particularly during this unstable time. FAA and TSA opinions of the soaring community depend largely on how well our members adhere to the temporary rules set up during the crisis and to the voluntary practices we have set out in our programs such as SOAR and site specific regular safety programs. These opinions, in turn, affect our ability to negotiate better conditions and glider oriented rules in the future.

As the situation develops we will try to keep you apprised on glider specific safety and security issues.
