New Discus 2c

On September 16, 2004, the newest entrant to the fast-growing 18-Meter Class was test-flown in Germany by Schempp-Hirth Flugzeugbau GmbH. The new Discus 2c is reported to have met all its design goals in including exceptionally pleasant flying characteristics and glide performance of earlier Open Class gliders. It can be flown in 18-meter or the 15-meter configuration of the Discus 2b. Of note is the contribution of Dr. Mark Maughmer, of Penn State University, who designed the winglets incorporated in the Discus 2c 18-meter wing. More information and photographs are available thru the U.S. representative of Schempp-Hirth.
