Data Plate Exemption Extended through 2004

On Friday, October 25, FAA issued a renewal letter granting a 2-year extension to the data plate exemption SSA first obtained on October 31, 1988.

View the newly issued letter by clicking here:Renewal Letter. Like its predecessors, this seventh renewal of Exemption 4988 provides relief from FAR 45.11(a) and (d), which otherwise requires gliders and motorgliders to bear permanently-affixed external ID plates listing aircraft model designation and serial number information. Exemption 4988 benefits all US glider pilots, glider and motorglider owners and both foreign and domestic glider manufacturers, including homebuilders. A copy of the letter, which must be carried in the sailplane, is available by clicking on the link above.
