FAA -SSA Establish New Process for Foreign Glider Pilot Applications

Working together the FAA and SSA have established a new process for handling applications by foreign glider pilots who wish to receive U.S. flight credentials. FAA recently posted new rules requiring detailed verification of credentials as well as law enforcement screening. These rules support national security initiatives required as a result of September 11th. By working together SSA and FAA have been able to streamline the application process and time required without compromising the enhanced security requirements.

SSA President Larry Sanderson praised the FAA managers working under FAA Associate Administrator Nick Sabatini for their leadership and understanding of the specific operating issues of gliding. Sanderson said, "Folks like Jim Ballough in Washington, DC and others in Oklahoma City have stepped up to achieve the security requirements and at the same time minimize the inconvenience and hassle for the average glider pilot. SSA is pleased to support the effort and we're proud of our association with the FAA professionals." Details of the new process can be obtained direct from SSA by sending an e-mail to info@ssa.org. Be sure to include your e-mail address or fax number to receive the material.
