Pennsylvania Site Hosts CAP Flight Academy

Philadelphia Glider Council (PGC) is the host site for a Civil Air Patrol National Flight Academy, June 19-30. Fifteen cadets, selected from across the U.S. are participating in this ab initio to supervised solo program conducted by the Pennsylvania Wing of CAP. Cadets are flying three Blanik L-23s, two of which are based at PGC, and one from the Connecticut Wing. CAP volunteers, including CFI-Gs are conducting the program, along with towing assistance from Philadelphia Glider Council members. The students are scheduled to receive approximately 30 flights each, and those qualified will fly a supervised solo, where the onboard instructor acts in an observer only role. This is the second annual National Flight Academy conducted at the PGC facility, where a CAP Glider Squadron is currently based.
