CAP Cadets Flying in New Mexico

Excellent flying conditions, dedicated instructors, volunteer tow pilots, local volunteers, 19 enthusiastic cadets and Hobbs hospitality are the key ingredients in the successful Lloyd Salle Soaring Academy that is going on now. Civil Air Patrol volunteers have been operating an annual summer gliding camp in Hobbs for years. Each summer a number of cadets undertake their primary training while others, returning from previous camps, expand their skills to the solo stage. The SSA/CAP partnership is one of the most active cadet flying programs in the country.

The Civil Air Patrol gliding program offers a number of national encampments each year and many regional camps like the one in Hobbs. Each year hundreds of youngsters learn to fly sailplanes and improve their gliding skills. The program is always looking for new volunteers and support.
