Daniel K. Harmon

Long time Albuquerque Soaring Club member Kim Harmon passed away on September 25, 2002 after a short illness. Colonel Kim Harmon, USAF (Ret.) was a resident of Albuquerque, NM since his assignment to Kirtland AFB in 1985. He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University and his MBA at the University of Colorado, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was also a graduate of the Air War College. He married Karen Engle in 1964 at Luke Air Force Base Chapel in Arizona. COL Harmon retired from the Air Force in 1988 after a distinguished career of 26 years, which included two tours of duty in Vietnam as a combat pilot. He earned many awards and decorations including the: Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two Silver and two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.

Kim was a very active member of the Albuquerque Soaring Club (ASC) and held various positions in the club over the years including: Treasurer and Club Maintenance Officer. He was also a very active cross country pilot winning the ASC X-C Award on several occasions. In addition to Moriarty, NM, Kim flew his DG-100 and later a DG-600 from several sites in the Southwest including: Taos, Durango and Alamogordo. Kim also earned his FAI Gold Badge with Two Diamonds out of ASCús home base at Moriarty, NM.

He will be missed by his family and his many friends in the Albuquerque Soaring Club.......
