Patricia Spears

In Memory of Patricia Spears:

An active, enthusiastic glider pilot, Pat Spears succumbed to cancer and passed away on Friday, August 14, 1998. Pat will always be remembered for her encouraging words to other glider pilots. She was a past president of the Cypress Soaring Club in Southern California, and an active member of the WSPA (Women Soaring Pilotsú Association). She was instrumental in the organization of the 1996 WSPA National Seminar in Hemet, California.

Pat flew a Libelle 201B and was a 2 time winner of the coveted "Anne Morrow Lindberg Challenge Trophy", for the longest cross country flight of the year by a female glider pilot in the nation. Thanks to all of the gals at the WSPA Seminar in Texas this summer who sent Pat a T-shirt, signed by all, encouraging her to hang in there! It arrived the morning that she passed away. Pat never gave up easily, always keeping a positive attitude. A nurse by profession, Pat will always be remembered in the glider community for her quiet, warm and friendly manner. She was highly respected by all and will be truly missed!
