Standard Class Nationals - Day 5 Report

A 340 mile assigned Task A started out but due to conditions developing slowly after launch, a task change in the air to a 288 mile assigned task was in order.

Most pilots seemed to have a decent run south to Lampasas and once they turned downwind to Hico, things started to cook. Turning southwest towards the final turn of McGregor pilots started to notice trouble ahead in the form of blowoff. The key was to find a good climb before gliding into and out of the turnpoint. V2 said it was the longest glide he has made other than final glides. Some pilots were able to stay on course and find a climb, others diverted to clouds.

For Standard Class competitors, Tom Holloran comes third, Phil Gaisford second and Mike Westbrook first for the day and overall.
