Region 11 Soar Truckee FAI - Race Day 1 - no race day

Unfortunately and often unusually, the forecast was correct. At Truckee, if the wind picks up by 10 AM it is probably going to be a windy day. So when your camper begins to shake in the wind at 3 AM, there is no ‘probably’ about it. With predicted winds in the 40 knot range at FL180 and 20 knots at ground level, and windy conditions also predicted for the next few days, racing was cancelled.

Jim Alton (5K) gave a summary of his winning (and losing) practice day, and Bill Gawthrop (F8) gave a short talk on how extreme mountain conditions can be.

The competitors spent the rest of the day enjoying the Lake Tahoe region.
