Standard and 15 Meter Nationals - No Contest Day

Saturday, 1 August 2015
15m/Standard Nationals - Elmira NY
No Contest Day

Today was a rest day and we all needed it!  It’s been a tough contest, but a good kind of tough.  The weather today was beautiful - sunny, cool for this time of year, with WNW winds and cu.  We are really lucking out with the weather this past week, compared to how the summer has gone so far.

Pilots, crews, contest staff, and HHSC members reconvened tonight for the Junior dinner at the Youth Camp.  This is a fund raising event for the HHSC Juniors.  They have also been washing trailers this week for a donation.

Although there are a few veterans, the group of Juniors we have this year are mostly new to the club and to soaring contests.  But they have been picking up the routine quickly – with the help of Operations dude Mark Van Dyke – and gelling as a group.  Besides helping during the launches and finishes, they also help assemble/disassemble gliders, help work the scales, take care of the garbage collection, and have been out on retrieves.  Junior Noah Reitter has been flying as one of the sniffers.  President Evan Harshbarger also filled in as Ops Lead when Mark needed to go back to work.  Great job, Juniors!  You rock!
