Region 2 North - Day 1 - Evening Report

The day was interesting! Strong headwinds going into the first turn point (which is in the lower Catskills.) Two pilots reported climbs to 6,000 with a 6 knot thermal! The down wind run to the South and the second turn point was fast with occasional ground speeds of over 100 mph! Then came some serious gear shifting as conditions went soft. The return back to the North took a few casualties who landed back at the airport.

Rob Dunning came in first in Sports class along with 7 other finishers and another 9 pilots ended up with distance points.

The real story was the Bus class. Ethan Mann accompanied by his father Erik Mann won the day and this was Ethan's first cross country flight!

The evening was capped off with a terrific Italian dinner hosted by Bill and Nancy Hanson. It was good to see Nancy again (and Bill too.)
