Region 2 North - Day 1 - Morning Report

As of the mandatory safety meeting this morning 23 pilots are registered for R2N. Only one pilot is flying at this site for the first time. It seems that this contest is one of the better kept secrets of the racing circuit! Having said that it should be noted that with 5 ships flying in the Bus class, there could be another 30 pilots to get an introduction to racing over the next two weekends.

One unique feature of this contest site is that the finish cylinder has a 1,400 foot MSL floor. This is almost 900 feet AGL. This is based on the location of the airport in a valley with a ridge perpendicular to the runway. Pilots coming home from the East need the extra altitude!

Given the contest is running earlier in June this year, there are fewer kids joining us but they are being replaced by 3 dogs so far. One pack enjoying themselves is being replaced with another, they just have different rituals in greeting one another.

UPDATE: Weatherman Eric Mann reported grid for sure and flying maybe. the Task is the traditional dump task a MAT with Ellenville as the first and only mandatory turn point and a 1.5 hour minimum time.
