Sports Class Nationals - Saturday Weather

FORECAST DISCUSSION:

THICK BLANKET OF STRATUS SITS OVER TAF SITES. WILL KEEP THE TEMPO
BKN015 IN FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF HOURS SINCE DFW JUST WENT BKN. OBS
AROUND WACO DO NOT SHOW THE LOWER DECK AND WILL LEAVE THEM AT LOW
VFR. IT WILL TAKE QUITE A WHILE FOR CEILINGS TO BURN OFF WITH THE
WEAK COLD ADVECTION CONTINUING...SO ALTHOUGH CEILINGS WILL LIFT
THEY MAY NOT SCATTER OUT UNTIL LATE AFTERNOON.

THE UNSEASONABLY COOL AIRMASS BEHIND THE MIDWEEK COLD FRONT WILL
HANG AROUND AT LEAST ONE MORE DAY...COMPLEMENTS OF A STUBBORN LOW
CLOUD DECK WHICH HAS SHIELDED IT FROM THE JULY SUNSHINE. THE
EVOLUTION OF THESE LOW CLOUDS ARE THE PRIMARY FORECAST CHALLENGE
TODAY...AS THEY WILL IMPACT TEMPERATURES GREATLY. THE CLOUD DECK
HAS ALREADY ERODED OVER THE WESTERN ZONES...AND THIS AREA WILL SEE
THE MOST SUNSHINE TODAY AND SHOULD MAKE IT INTO THE 90S.
MEANWHILE...CLOUDS SHOULD PERSIST THROUGH MORNING OVER THE CENTRAL
AND EASTERN ZONES WITH SOME CLEARING FINALLY TAKING PLACE THIS
AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD STAY IN THE MID TO UPPER
80S.

THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (TCEQ) HAS ISSUED

AN OZONE ACTION DAY FOR THE DALLAS-FORT WORTH AREA FOR SATURDAY,

JULY 19, 2014.

ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE FAVORABLE FOR PRODUCING

HIGH LEVELS OF OZONE AIR POLLUTION IN THE DALLAS-FORT WORTH AREA

ON SATURDAY. YOU CAN HELP PREVENT OZONE POLLUTION BY SHARING A

RIDE, WALKING, RIDING A BICYCLE, TAKING YOUR LUNCH TO WORK,

AVOIDING DRIVE-THROUGH LANES, CONSERVING ENERGY, AND KEEPING YOUR

VEHICLE PROPERLY TUNED.

TRIGGER:

TEMP: 79 F TIME: 12:30 – 3:00 PM FORECAST HIGH: 78 – 88 F

KDFW 191120Z 1912/2018 11007KT P6SM SCT015 OVC030
  TEMPO 1912/1914 BKN015
  FM191500 14006KT P6SM BKN035

COMMENTS: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming east southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.  NWS SHOWS CLOUD COVER RAPIDLY DROPPING AFTER 1 PM. NWS TEMPERATURE TRACKS AHEAD OF RAP AND NAM SIGNIFICANTLY WITH A HIGH OF 86. ABC IN DALLAS SAYS 88. NAM SOUNDING SHOWS 78 AT 4 PM.  IF IT WARMS UP WE SHOULD SEE LIFT TO AROUND  4500 AND I EXPECT CU CONSIDERING HOW MUCH MOISTURE IS AVAILABLE. THE BIG CHALLENGE TODAY IS JUST THE TIMING OF HOW SOON THE CLOUD LAYER BREAKS UP. IF IT DOES EARLY ENOUGH WE SHOULD HAVE A FAIR SOARING DAY. ONCE AGAIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS ARE LOOKING EXCELLENT.
