Region 9 Moriarty - Second Contest Day

The weather was predicted to be mostly blue with scattered cumulus.  Strong lift topping out at over 18K was expected with moderate winds.

Tuesday was the second contest day.  For the FAI Classes (Standard, 15 Meter, 18 Meter)  the task committee called a Modified Assigned Speed Task with a minimum time of 3.75 hours and turn points at Gallake, Tajique, Encino, Palma 140, Sandia East, Mountainair, Lucy, San Cristobal, Clines Corners and up to two additional turn points at the pilot's discretion.

For the Sports class the MAST had a minimum time of 3.5 hours and turn points at Ortiz Mine, Manzano Peak, Willard, Sandia East, Mountainair, Lucy, Wagon Wheel, Zorro Ranch, Chilili and one additional turn point of the pilot's choice.

Preliminary results for the Standard class have Walt Rogers as the winner with 1000 points for a speed of 80.76 mph over a distance of 332.5 miles.  In the 15 Meter class Steve Koener took the lead with 1000 points for a speed of 88.54 mph over a distance of 339.1 miles.  Shack Roberts led the pack in the 18 Meter class with 1000 points for a speed of 89.73 mph over a distance of 349.88 miles.  And in the Sports class Jim Payne once again finished first with 1000 points for a handicapped speed of 69.36 mph over a distance of 259.9 miles.
