Region 11 Soar Truckee Combined FAI Contest - Truckee Regional day 2, 8/7/2012

Tuesday August 7, 2012, Day 2. Good weather today as expected, and pretty normal for Truckee . Winds mild at about 10 to 15 knots, cloud base up to 18,000’, thermals from 7 to 10 knots, some climbs at 14 knots. Task is a TAT to Glass Mountain and back for about 260 miles, circle radius 40 miles to accommodate vast disparity between handicaps of participating ships. The “two” winners, in the sense that they were well above the performance of everybody else, were Luke Ashcraft, winner in the ASW 27 with speed of 88 mph (I told you to watch for this guy) handicapped to 78 mph, and Bill Gawthrop with 89 mph in the ASH-26, handicapped to 76 mph. Distances covered were above 400 km (250 miles). First three after two days are Bill, Luke and Sergio Colacevich.
