13.5 Meter Super Regional - Day 7 Post-Banquet

Race Fans,

We were treated to a very nice meal in the towplane hangar at TSA. Scorer Terry Stroud came over with a bullhorn and a scoresheet to announce the winners of the contest. In the 13.5 Meter Super Regionals, 3rd place went to Pat Tuckey, 2nd to Bill Snead, and 1st to Francois Pin, all flying PW-5's. These three are all current and/or former members of the US Team in World Class and top notch pilots. I was happy to present Francois with the Jim LeSueur trophy on behalf of my club, the Kansas Soaring Association. It is the travelling trophy for Region 10.

Neal Palmquist presented Jacob Fairbairn with an award to commemorate his growth as a XC pilot this week. I believe it is called the "TSA 1-26 Novice" award and is a stain glass picture of 1-26 #97 which for years was flown by TSA'er Marvin Willis and flown at the Championships by Marvin and current owner Cathy Williams. Jacob had his first landout ever two weeks ago and really spread his wings during the contest. It was great flying with him.

Contest Manager Tom Barkow handed out about 60 Certificates of Appreciation to all the people who helped make this contest happen. There were a lot of local volunteers who helped out in one way or the other and I must say that the contest was absolutely top notch from a pilot perspective. The TSA youth did an awesome job of running the line and everyone did their part to keep things moving along.

I'm sure its driving you all crazy but I'll wait until after the 1-26 breakfast in the morning to post the 1-26 scores. Most likely I will get them up tomorrow evening after we get home from our drive. I hope you've enjoyed the reports, we had a great time down here!
