13.5 Meter Super Regional - Day 7 Pre-Banquet

Good afternoon race fans,

Just a quick update of what I know. We gridded at 11:30 and started the launch about 12:20. I believe it was the first day of the contest that we had no relights. Task was open by 1:20 and gliders dribbled out on course. There were a few late starters who were kind enough to call their starts, including Tom McKnight (67) and Kevin Anderson (192). We'll find out at the banquet if it made the difference. I did notice that the lift was a lot stronger on my trip back than my trip out but there didn't seem to as much streeting. Should be interesting.

When I made it back to TSA about 4 PM I only heard about one landout, Glenn Fisher in 508. I must take partial credit for this one though as we were flying together and I pushed it low and barely dug out over the Wal-Mart in Hillsboro. I saw Glenn on the ground on my way back north. He was in the field that I landed in. The guys back home in Blairstown will be glad to know that instead of getting sucked into the airport vortex at Hillsboro, Glenn landed out in an honest to god real field, his first career off field landing. The "land out" that I reported earlier this week for him was actually a landing at an airport.

When I left Bill Vickland (238), 1-26 Leader, had landed but I don't think Bob Hurni (190), in second, had made it back yet.  Francois (FP), 13.5 meter leader, had just landed.

Talk to you after the banquet!

Tony (YYY)
