Region 9 Super Regional Moriarty Club/Modern Class - Wednesday, June 13, 2012 - Third Contest Day

Jim Cumiford (RX) reclaimed the number one spot in the Modern class with 875 points for a handicapped speed of 67.54 mph over a distance of 207.85 miles.  Contest director Bill Hill (Z), flying his Discus 2b as a guest, posted the second highest score of the day with 858 points and a speed of 66.24 mph over a distance of 197.72 miles.  Bif Huss (H7) in his Discus 2b posted the second highest score for a competitor garnering 857 points for a speed of 66.16 mph over 196.60 miles.  David Leonard ((ZL)  brought up third in his ASW-27 racking up 846 points for a speed of 65.29 mph and a distance of 202.87.

In the Club class, Bob Faris (BF) in his LS-3-15 finished in the number one spot for the third day in a row amassing 1000 points for a handicapped speed of 68.68 mph over a distance of 176.75 miles.  Brian Resor (UX) finished second in his ASW-20-15C with 933 points for a speed of 64.07 mph and a distance of 159.20 miles.  Tomasz Ciesielski (7UP) came in third in his LS-3A with 869 points for a speed of 59.71 mph over a distance of 148.86 miles.

Robert DeLeon (GE2) landed his Genesis II at Don Imus ranch near Ribera which earned him a spot on Fox News.  Three Air Force sailplanes landed out, one at Duran, one at Vaughn, and one three and a half miles from the nearest road somewhere southwest of Encino.  Even with accurate GPS coordinates he did not connect with his retrieve crew until after 10:00 pm.  That’s New Mexico for you, sometimes you just cannot get there from here.
