Region 9 Super Regional Moriarty Club/Modern Class - Sunday, June 10 2011 - Practice Day

The contest task advisorary committee set a relatively easy task for today's practice with turn cylinders at Crosby Ranch (20 mi), Clines Corner (10 mi), and Galisteo Lake(10 mi) for a minimum distance of 97 mi, nominal of 167 mi, and maximum of 238 mi.  Minimum time was 2 hours and 30 minutes for the club class gliders and 3 hours for the modern class gliders.

It was a blue day, with surface winds of 15-20 mph and strong westerly winds aloft.  Twelve modern class gliders and eight club class gliders attempted the task.  Ron Leonard (ZL) in his ASW-27 took the day for the modern class with a handicapped speed of 65.55 mph over a distance of 196.19 miles.  Bob Faris (BF) in an LS-3-15 won the day in the club class with a handicapped speed of 60.41 mph over a distance of 158.77 miles.
