18 Meter Nationals - Practice Day 2 - The Touring MAT

Hi Race Fans,

Generally one practice day is devoted to a de rigueur open MAT to allow contestants to explore the task area.  Like yesterday, wind was forecast to be of the strong crosswind variety so we gridded early, expecting to be able to use only the tricycle geared towplane. The sniffer launched and immediately went to 3500.

In all, 7 pilots flew an average of 240 mi, with DJ clocking 338 mi at 84 mph.

The field is small with only 15 pilots, but 11 are US Team veterans and by my count 5 are at least mathematically in it for the Uvalde team spot up for grabs.

Stay tuned.
