Region 2 - Day 4 at Mifflin

With the departure of TA, I've been nominated to fill in yet another time and do today's report.

Today was day 4 for The Region 2 Contest here at the Mifflin County Airport. After a short meeting with my task advisors, it was decided a 2:30 TAT was today's ticket. The task was Three Barns with a 15 mile ring, followed by Orbisonia with a 25 mile ring and then home. Heinz Weissenbuehler with wife Karin in the Duo were launched as today's sniffer at 11:28. After milling around for about 45 minutes, they reported 2 knots of lift and the fleet was launched. As you can see by the speeds and distances flown, today was quit a challenge.

Being today's sniffer must have been the key to Heinz's success because he and Karin placed 1st in the Sports Class with a actual speed of 31.96 mph and a distance of 79.85 miles. He was followed closely by Andrew Brayer. Andy has been having a great contest and retains his 2nd place standing.

In the FAI Class, Jerzy Szemplinski showed the others how it's  done and flew the task at 50.19 mph with a distance of 132.90 miles. With his 1st place finish, Jerzy bumps Sean Murphy back to 2nd place overall in the FAI standings.

Canceling the Region 2 Contest last week due to the weather has paid off with four contest days in thus far for the rescheduled contest.

Tomorrow's day looks marginal so we'll wait to see the hand Mother Nature deals us. Stay tuned....
