Region 8 Championships - Practice Day Report

Practice Day – June 27

After a quick meeting in the morning to go over the weather and operations, the grid was opened for practice day flying.  The practice task called was a 2 hr MAT for both classes.  The forecast was for clear skies with lift in the 3-5 kt range.  What really happened was that the jetstream brought in enough moisture for the western part of the task area to have cumulus with 8,000 ft bases.  16 of the 20 pilots registered flew up to 191 miles and speeds up to 68 mph.

After the flying, there was a potluck barbecue on the deck of the clubhouse, followed by the safety briefing.
