Sports Class Nationals - Contest Day 3 Report

Contest Day 3 Report

The third day of contest began this morning with another Pilot's Meeting at 10 AM.  "Soaring Court" was held again, and more discussion about tow ropes happened.  Mike Stringfellow predicted winds between 10-30 MPH from the Southwest.

Grid time was noon, and the sniffer was sent up at 12:30.  But then a strong tail wind came and an elephant walk had to take place to launch from the other end of the runway.  The first official launch occurred at 1:20 PM.  It too an hour and eight minutes to launch 40 planes, even with eight rope exchanges.  There was only one relight and only two land outs that happened toward the end of the task.  3 competitors besides the two land out were not able to complete the task on the last leg.

The task included heading Southeast to Bryce Canyon, North to Richfield, Southwest to Sulfurdale, and South Southeast to Cedar City, then returning Northeast to Parowan.  It was a 3 hour task.
