Region 6 North - Day 2 Report

Day 3 Report – Wednesday, June 2, 2010

We woke up this morning to rumbles of thunder and steady rain, and the wet weather gave us no prospect for flying today.  Irn thanked everyone for their efforts yesterday in getting in a contest day, albeit a difficult one.  The conversations during the pilots’ meeting turned to laughter and stories of the yesterday’s events and other memorable landouts.  Lorry Charchian spoke of his landing yesterday in a potato field and the very generous perfect strangers and tow pilot, Chris Wood, who volunteered to push his plane to a place where he could disassemble.  First time contestant Glenn Betzoldt experienced a similar kindness of strangers in a cornfield north of Palo where Scott, the farmer’s son, quipped, “Not to worry, the deer eat more corn each night than what your glider has taken out.”  One after another “best landout stories” lightened the meeting’s mood.

Rick Green was recognized for his 23 years of scoring the Ionia Contest.

With the frontal passage today, the potential for flying tomorrow improves.
