Region 10 North - Practice Day 1 Report

A new Chapter was made today in the Memphis Soaring Society's history as  RV and glider trailers streamed in from across the country.  It was exciting for the club members to see glider trailers stretched alongside our 4,000 ft runway.

The conditions looked promising as cumulus clouds were in all directions.  Roughly a dozen contestants loaded up with water and went off in all directions on orientation flights.  A few pilots flew together on a 270 kilometer flight. Most pilots found solid 2-3 knot lift while a few pilots stumbled across 4 knot lift.  Cloudbases ranged from 3,500 to 4,000 later in the day.

For the most part, this day was a great day to get familiar with the area and then set up your RV, camper or tent.

History is made as the first contest for the Memphis Soaring Society is underway.
