Region 9 North - Final Race Report

Racing Fans,

After a good practice day and five days of good racing, the weather gods threw us for a loop today.  We awoke to gray drizzly skies after the cold front passed through.  The weather forecast called for clearing skies and cool temperatures by early afternoon, with no clearly defined time frame.  I called for another meeting at 12:30 PM to give me time to further evaluate the weather and generally delay making a decision on the day.

By the time we held that meeting it had become obvious that the day would not start early enough to allow for a launch and a fair competition day.  I really wanted to avoid the possibility of luck during a short task to influence the final scores so I called the day.

We’ve had a great time here in Logan and the cooperation of everyone involved couldn’t have been better.  I’d especially like to commend LEADING EDGE AVIATION which provided our meeting space and anything else we needed from bathrooms, tables, and chairs to fudgecicles. Their staff bent over backwards to meet our needs.  They even delivered ice for the line crew’s cooler out on the line one day.

The local glider club, Logan Cache Valley Soaring, did all the preliminary ground work and provided much of the local staff for the contest.  They were ably assisted by members of NUTSO, The Northern Utah Soaring Organization, which is an affiliation of six local clubs.  Together, they did a great job hosting the first contest at this terrific site.  Hopefully, together, we’ve planted the seeds to grow a great new contest site here in Logan.

See you at the airport,

Charlie "Lite" Minner
