Sports Class Nationals - Practice Day, July 20

Following a relaxed practice day July 19 and a dinner celebrating the 75th anniversary of Harris Hill, CD Heinz Weissenbuehler, Jr. called a 116-mile TAT for Monday's practice day. Of the 38 contestants, 20 tried the task and 18 made it home. Pilots remarked about the challenging weather, as the Northeast continues under the influence of what seems like a semi-permanent trough sitting stubbornly between New York and Michigan.

The winner was Sean Franke, flying an LS-3A, with 817 points for a flight of 134.78 actual miles at 54.03 actual speed. Second was Manfred Franke (also LS-3A) with 767 points for 148 miles at 50.49 and third was Robert Fletcher who flew an ASW-28 for 124.45 miles at 50.14 for 743 points.
