Seniors Championship - March 13 Report

2009 Senior Contest – Seminole Lake Gliderport, Clermont Florida

Report for March 13

Our streak of superb Florida weather (eight consecutive good soaring days) shows signs of coming to an end.  We had another good day today, though not without a few problems, including one relight and two landouts, doubling our total in both categories.  Also in evidence were murky skies and some high clouds intruding from the north.

Yet the task (which stayed south of home) proved reasonably well matched to the conditions. Most pilots had at least a few problems, but there were plenty of raw speeds above 60 mph, and Ed Hollestelle in his 18-Meter LS-10 motorglider managed to crack 70 mph.

The winner was Sam Giltner, who did 63.3 mph in his LS-1.  Second was Tom Knauff in his Duo Discus.
