Description

2016 Ms. Kerry Huffstutler Selected by the Spratt Award Committee based on her 30+ years of organizing contests at Uvalde. Without her unselfish commitment it is doubtful that most of these contests would have occurred and given so many pilots a fantastic soaring experience. Charlie would be with us on this.
2015 Mr Richard F Walters Awarded posthumously for all of the work Rick did supporting soaring and especially soaring contests.
2014 No Award
2013 Mr Brett Rexford Mayes Rex and Noelle Mayes run the world famous operation in Williams, California. Together they have helped with or organized many SSA-sanctioned contests. They also now own the FBO at Rohrer Field, and maintain a tow and glider ride and instruction business. Together they go above and beyond just running a business, and have built a home for a thriving soaring community. Their commitment to pilot safety, both in their own operation and for the soaring community is unparalleled. They made the adoption of FLARM at contests a reality.
2013 Mr John Cochrane John has not only kept records and tally for the Northern Illinois soaring contest, OLC, but has sent daily weather analysis with blip maps, satellite, skew T's, etc., along with his interpretation of the conditions from his point of view. John has a wealth of experience on competitive flying and his sharing of this experience has encouraged many new cross-country pilots. His service has been consistent, all inclusive and of the highest quality that all look forward to. He has worked to mentor area pilots to compete in OLC.

2012 Mr David L Coggins David Coggins is awarded the Charlie Spratt Award for his outstanding work with the 2012 World Gliding Championships (WGC) held in Uvalde, Texas, in 2012. David, a long time member and current president of the Greater Houston Soaring Association was one of the first SSA members to step up to the plate three years ago and ask “what can I do?” when told the US had won the bid for the WGC. His experience as a glider pilot, tow pilot, re-finisher, club pillar, and competition organizer placed him in the perfect position to accept the role of Chief of Flight Operations for the WGC. David has worked countless hours towards a successful WGC and years towards recruiting new members to Greater Houston Soaring Association and encouraging the development of cross-country pilots. His is a quiet influence, but steady and strong on behalf of the SSA and its membership. Charlie would be proud.
